Trailer security camera for empty sites

A site trailer sits empty from Friday evening to Monday morning. A camera on the trailer sends a photo to your phone when someone walks up to it after hours, so you know on Saturday night instead of Monday.

What happens when someone shows up

Motion at the camera sends a photo alert to your phone. A clip of about ten seconds is saved with every motion event. You open it in the app from the alert and watch what happened before and after the photo.

The camera has infrared night vision to 30 metres. A photo taken at 3 a.m. on a site with no lighting still shows the person at the door.

People who do not carry the app can get the same alert by SMS.

Armed hours

The camera alarm follows a schedule you set. With armed hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, the crew arriving at 7 a.m. and the service tech at 10 a.m. do not trigger it. The person at the door at 2 a.m. on Sunday does.

Outside armed hours the camera sends no alerts, so your phone stays quiet through the shift. You change the schedule when the shift pattern changes.

Siren and floodlight

The camera carries a siren and a floodlight, and you trigger both from the app. The siren sounds at the trailer and the floodlight comes on in front of the camera. The command travels over the same cellular connection as the alert, so it works from the office or from home.

No Wi-Fi needed

The camera works over LTE, so nothing on site needs Wi-Fi. Photo alerts, clips and the siren and floodlight controls all travel over the cellular connection, and the trailer needs a cellular data plan for it.

On a site with weak signal, an external antenna can be fitted to the hub. See cellular connectivity for what the connection needs on site.

Fitting it to your trailers

The camera mounts on the outside of the trailer and is the only part of the system fitted outdoors. It plugs into the same hub as the tank and power sensors, which sit inside.

The hub runs on 120 V mains or on 12/24 V solar and battery. A battery backup keeps the hub running when mains is lost.

The system goes into a new build or onto a trailer already in the fleet, from any manufacturer, and a typical install takes an afternoon. Because the camera is on the same hub, you can add tank and power sensors to the trailer later without replacing anything.

Where it is used

Construction sites that empty out at the end of the shift and remote yards are the usual case. Office trailers hold the laptops and tools that get taken in a break-in. Pricing is by quote; see pricing for how to get one. Quotes go out the same day.

Common questions

Does it need Wi-Fi on site?

No. The camera works over LTE, and the alerts, clips and app controls use that cellular connection. On a weak-signal site an external antenna can be fitted to the hub. See cellular connectivity for the details.

Will it go off while my crew is working?

Not if you set the armed hours around the shift. The camera alarm follows the schedule you choose, so a crew arriving at 7 a.m. or a service tech at 10 a.m. does not send you a photo. Someone there at 2 a.m. does.

Can I see what happened, not just a photo?

Yes. A clip of about ten seconds is saved with every motion event. You open it in the app from the alert and watch the seconds around the photo.

Who gets the alert?

Anyone you add. People with the ModSensors Pro iPhone app get a push notification with the photo. People without it get an SMS. The office sees the same events, with history, on the web dashboard.
